Carlos Tavares, CEO of French car group PSA has been elected to be the new president of European car manufacturers federation ACEA in 2018. He succeeds Dieter Zetsche, top guy of German car maker Daimler who presided the organization for two years.

“Our first goal for 2018 will be to make up the future plan to reduce CO2 emissions, continue to improve on the matter of safety and to protect and improve the competitiveness of the European automotive industry”, Tavares stated in a press release.
The Portuguese Carlos Tavares used to be Renault’s number 2 before taking the helm at PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) in 2014 and enlarging the group with taking over German brand Opel from General Motors. The group represents 16% of the European car market today.
