Renault participates in Dutch smart charging startup Jedlix
Renault takes an action of 25% in Jedlix, which is a subsidiary company of the Dutch company Eneco, specialized in smart charging vehicles with ‘green’ electricity . This way Renault shows its willingness to invest further in electric mobility.
When prices are low
Renault and Eneco announced the partnership on Tuesdeay, but the companies already are working together for two years on projects of postponed and smart charging of electric vehicles. Jedlix’s software lets the cars charge when supply of sustainable electricity is ample and prices low. This way the consumer can benefit from lower electricity rates and Eneco can reduce consumption peaks on the grid.
Smart charging app
As from the end of this year an app will be available in the Netherlands which makes smart charging possible. The user just has to indicate his desired departure time when plugging in his electric car and charging will automatically start at the best moment.
Other European countries will follow soon. The Dutch startup Jedlix also cooperates already with other car manufacturers such as BMW and Tesla.
According to Gilles Normand, vice president of Renault Electric Vehicles, the car manufacturer wants to become a more important player on the market of electric vehicles by starting with innovative cooperations. Together with Jedlix Renault wants develop a system that makes the charging process of electric cars more easy and more affordable.
