Van Hool builds first electric bus for United States
Belgian bus maker Van Hool is about to offer electric buses with a range of 300 kilometres. The CX45E bus was developed at the home base in Koningshooikt in close cooperation with American battery specialist Proterra.
Production is planned in the Skopje plant (Macedonia), where the non-electrical version CX45 is already built. The first buses will be delivered in the USA.
“At the time we already count 10.000 Van Hool-buses on the American roads. Among our customers there are large companies in Silicon Valley, that offer commuting services to their employees”, says CEO Filip Van Hool. The e-bus was developed on their demand.
No Belgian plans
It is remarkable that Van Hool is not a contender in the tender for electric buses of Belgian public transport company De Lijn.
In Wallonia the Liege based company Green Propulsion developed a hybrid diesel engine for cross-town buses that halve diesel consumption and CO2-emissions.
The engine has been tested at bus company TEC. This says Laurent Minguet, founder of technology company EVS, that invested in the engine.
