Herbert Demel joins Chinese Protean Electric company
Dr. Herbert Demel, a well known automotive professional, joins the Chinese company Protean Electric (world leader in in-wheel electric motors) as non-executive director.
“Dr. Demel brings a wealth of worldwide automotive industry experience which will support us as we continue to grow,”said KY Chan, CEO of Protean Electric.
Dr. Herbert Demel has held a number of senior positions in the automotive industry. After a doctorate in motor sciences he worked at Bosch before going to the VW Group and ascending to the CEO post at Audi. Later he was president of VW do Brazil before moving to Magna Steyr, Fiat Auto and finally M&W Group, a plant manufacturer. From 2010 to 2015 he was also a member of the Supervisory Board at Volvo Cars.

I’ve been impressed with the progress this innovative company has made so far and recognise the high potential they offer to the world of sustainable transport,” says Herbert Demel.
Protean Electric is developing and manufacturing ProteanDRIVE, a fully integrated in-wheel drive solution. It will try to occupy a strategic position in the electric and hybrid vehicle market of the future. It has operations in the United Kingdom, the United States and China, home of his manufacturing centre.
