Wallonia: more electric bicycles available for free trial
Environment Minister Carlo Di Antonio (cdH) enhances the ‘Try an electric bicycle” operation with a total of 74 partners around Wallonia and offering them 4 bicycle for their costumer to try.
In March, Carlo Di Antonio launched the operation “Try an electric bicycle” to help broaden the proportion of e-cyclists in Wallonia. People could go to the nearest partnering bicycle shop and try out an electric bicycle for one month.
Due to the operation’s success, Di Antonio added 39 new shops to the list bringing the total to 74 for a budget of € 730.000. The test period is shortened to 15 days and each shop get 4 bicycles instead of two.
“To get acquainted with”
“Thanks to the 39 new partners, the number of available spaces to test a bicycle goes from 2.448 to more than 17.500! It also came to our attention that two week is long enough. This will allow us to touch more people. At the beginning of the year, 35 bicycle shops obtained each 2 electric bicycles. But we have been overflown with demand. Thousands are still waiting”.
“We have therefore decided to add two bicycles to each bike shop”, explains Carlo Di Antonio, “The objective is for people to get acquainted with electric bicycles to the buy one later. Because at that price (around € 2.000), they prefer to test it before acquiring it.
Testers are for 75% car users. “Our objective is that they replace their cars by these electric bicycles for short trips”, says Di Antonio. According to a survey, 36% of people having taken part in this operation consider using an electric bicycle for their work and leisure trips and 27% of them consider it for work trips only.
