Bpost takes over bicycle delivery service Bubble Post
Belgian public post company bpost disappoints with their quarterly figures because letter post dwindles, but on the other hand the packets delivery service is booming. That’s why bpost took over the Ghent based startup specializing in delivery services by bicycle, Bubble Post.
Bubble Post only exists for five years. Bubble Post makes use of cargo bicycles to deliver small parcels in the city center in a eco friendly way. The company was founded by three citizens of Ghent. Apart from the cargo bicycles the company makes use of cooling trucks powered by compressed natural gas.
Bubble Post is known for delivering of cool and frozen goods for the catering and wholesaler’s industry and they also deliver lunch boxes. Bubble Post has 100 employees and sends out bicycle couriers in 15 Belgian and Dutch cities. The company realizes a turnover of 3,5 million euro a year.
4 million euro
It is unclear how much bpost paid exactly for the company, but the take-over is estimated 4 million euro. Delivery services are becoming an important pillar for bpost on a national and an international base.
From April to June bpost realized a turnover of 145,5 million euro which is an increase of 61%. This also means that the delivery service represents a fourth part of the total turnover (699,6 million euro) of the bpost group.
